Guasha is the practice of using a tool to apply pressure on the skin to relieve pain and tension. It can be used in multiple ways- for cosmetic purposes gently on the face and other areas, as a myofascial release technique for knots and stiff muscles and as a way to gently remove toxins or ‘heat’ from the body.

What is Guasha?

Gua Sha, also known as scraping, is a massage technique which involves rubbing the skin with an implement (usually jade) which increases blood circulation at that localised area. Gua Sha is a myofascial technique which breaks up muscle adhesions and improving range of motion. It is typically used for conditions for pain relief but can also be used for facial rejuvenation.
An ointment or oil is used for Gua Sha. This assists with circulation of blood and the elimination of toxins during the treatment.
Are there any marks from Guasha?
- Petichiae or ‘Sha’ refers to the red marks that come up through guasha and reflects the elimination of toxins from the body. These will go away within 1-7 days.
